Willkommen im Staatsarchiv des Kantons Bern

“Willkommen im Staatsarchiv des Kantons Bern” auf Youtube (via Andrew Chernevych auf LinkedIn):

“I love well-executed “welcome to archives” videos. Last year I shared one from the Riksarkivet (Norway) https://lnkd.in/gQmiPCmG This time it’s Kanton Bern Staatsarchiv (Switzerland), video link below. (Translated captions are available in Settings ⚙)
I think this is an excellent intro video and this is why:

1. A perfect length (< 7 min) with all the main aspects covered and explained in plain language. 2. Staff are showcased with several profiles highlighting functional areas but also providing personal human dimension. 3. Abundant footage of stacks and retrieval/reshelving. I believe that showing these back-door operations contributes to general understanding of archival functions, logistics and the physical footprint of the operations. 4. There is an great illustration of how records from different government agencies are cross-referenced in a specific search. 5. The archival mission is clearly articulated with reference to “legal certainty” and the the rule of law in a democracy. 6. The transition from analog to pure digital is addressed with timeline projections. 7. I appreciate the footage of a researcher taking photos of records with a phone – a sign of common sense access policy."
